Adding Plugins for Blog Enhancements: The Fifth Step In Starting A Travel Blog

May 8th, 2008 by latinaontravel

I’d like to bring a forth a few plugins that I use on LatinaOnTravel.com to continue the series on how to start a travel blog (or any blog). LatinaOnTravel.com is using the wordpress blogging software. Our last upgrade was just days ago as it is important to keep your blog up to date and current. It is also a good idea to add plugins because they give more blog functionalities for your personal use.

Adding Plugins for Blog Enhancements: The Fifth Step In Starting A Travel Blog

Here are plugins that are activated on this blog and MoreMoneygirls.net. Which plugins do you use? Feel free to share them on a comment.

  • Adsense Deluxe - This plugin will let you add adsense ads in your blog posts. Website owners who wish to earn with google with their blogs will more than likely use this adsense deluxe functionality very often.

  • AJAX Comment Preview - The comment preview provides a button that allows users to look over a comment before submitting it.

  • Subscribe To Comments - Let your users subscribe to comments. They will be notified when others post comments to their comments.

  • MyAvatars - This plugin allows you to add MyBlogLog.com avatars to Wordpress comments.

  • Code Auto Escape - Programmers who wish to publish software code for their readers will find this plugin to be very helpful. It shows the actual code instead of the output that would appear otherwise. See the link exchange page for an example. I used the plugin function to display the link code for LatinaOnTravel.com. You’ll see it in the box.

  • runPHP - This is another great plugin for software programmers. It allows you to put PHP code into a post.

  • Digg This - Use this one to display an easy digg button on your post.

  • Share This - Let your visitors share a post/page with others. Supports e-mail and posting to social bookmarking sites. Thanks to Thomas McMahon for footwork on the URLs.

  • Dofollow - The Dofollow disables the rel=nofollow attribute in comments.

  • Email Users - There are quite a few users on LatinaOnTravel.com, contributors and authors. Each user can use the email function to inform the other users of new blog post articles. By the way, if you are interested in contributing travel related articles, register here. A two paragraph minimum is the only requirement for posting articles on LatinaOnTravel.com.

  • Evermore - This adds the read more function where readers must click Read the rest of this entry » to see more.

  • FeedBurner FeedSmith - This redirects your feeds to the most adored subscription place, Feedburner.com.

  • Full Text Feed - Use this to show all of your text instead of the default partial on your wordpress feeds.

  • Sphere Related Content - One of my blogs was added to sphere and it generated some traffic. As a thank you to Sphere, I’ve added their plugin that automatically show related blog posts and news articles.

  • Hidden Affiliate Links - I haven’t really had the time to implement this, but its uploaded for future use, when I get around to it -:) There are other ways to accomplish this, but check it out to hide affiliate links.

  • SEO Meta Editor Advanced - Same with the SEO Meta. Its always a request from my clients, so it to is uploaded on my page for future use.

  • Simple Tagging - This lets you add tags and keywords to your posts. However with the new wordpress 2.5 upgrade, a simple tagging system is already in place.

  • Related Posts - This returns a list of the related entries based on active/passive keyword matches.

  • Google (XML) Sitemaps - This generator will create a sitemaps.org compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported By Google, MSN Search and YAHOO.

Of course, there are many other cool plugins that are available so subscribe to receive our updates. I offer blog setup service on the new blog check list page for anyone interested in starting a new blog.
